Ok , once again we face a fallow weekend for motorsport .

So in an attempt to keep our interest and desire to once again “get out” here are some wonderful images of Irish motorsport taken in the fifties by R.B.Healy .

These photos are of exceptionally rare quality for the period and taken at Wicklow , Dunboyne , Curragh ,Dungarvan and Farmers Cross hill climbs .

Featured are some cars that still race with us today in the pre 55 class, the Iona special and the TRS along with the ex Bobby Newell Alvis .

Also prominent is the Leprechaun driven by Redmond Gallagher of Urney chocolate fame and Joe Flynn in an MGA and Aston Martin DB2 .

The Leprechaun is currently having a complete rebuild and is in the collection of Frank Keane , perhaps we will hear it running soon .

With special thanks to Mark Healy for permission to post . B.K.

My late father, R.B. (Ben) Healy, made these images during the 1950s at various motorsport events around Ireland. I’m indebted to Eddie Fitzgerald of the Irish Motor Racing Club for his assistance in identifying many of the cars in these images.
