Paddock Perambulations Mondello Park 14th of April 2019 HISTORIC definition: famous or important in history, or potentially so. After a long Winter we are back on the race circuit again. With two races on Sunday everyone was up bright and early and trying to get to grips with unloading, scrutiny and sign on. The first meeting is always tiring until one gets into a routine of sorts. We had 13 on the grid and welcomed some new members Eddie Kinirons and Brendan Keane to brighten the proceedings. Some existing members could not make it: Tommy Doherty recovering from a back operation, Stephen Griffin had some hip surgery and Noel Kavanagh presently retired from racing. Unfortunately we were also missing Conor Cooke as Ethan had a serious accident and is presently in Beaumont Hospital. All the HRCA members’ thoughts are with him and we wish him a speedy recovery. It was seriously cold in Mondello and everyone was huddled up in jackets and trying to keep warm by hibernating in road cars with the heating on. Our carbon footprint diminished by the litre. The cold kept all in cars so little time for the usual socialising. The brave and hardy dashed to the café for some healthy Irish breakfasts. Two non-racing members had theirs with chips definitely recommended. We launched our new regalia, details on website, and a good few orders were taken so we will all look extremely smart for our trip to Bishopscourt in May. Despite having been racing for years two drivers nearly missed drivers’ briefing as they were in “the lorry” having tea and chatting. Who on earth could they be? It was good racing and our new members added to the excitement on the track. There were a few mechanical issues and one small bodywork issue but all finished safely. Hopefully we will live up to our definition above not just in age but in the full meaning on the word and reach our potential. Full results will be available on our website. Perambulator does not do technical mathematics.
